The Nationals Appreciate You(r Money)

On Sep. 23, the Nationals will play their last home game of what promises to be a miserable season. ("We promise that we don't give a damn about this year's team!")

For many teams, the final home games is typically Fan Appreciation Day, whatever that means. The Nationals have made this date into a so-called "Premium Game," meaning most tickets cost about 25 percent more.

Thanks, jerks!

Correction: dl004d has pointed out that this is the last game ever at RFK. (This, generously, assumes that the new taxpayer-funded ballpark will be created on time.) So I take it all back. Except that the Nats are still jerks.

It's amazing that more than two weeks into the liberation of Iraq---as residents in Basra are cheering British forces and Americans occupy Baghdad's airport and Saddam Hussein's main presidential palace---the antiwar crowd is still spinning a doomsday scenario. But it's getting harder and harder to take seriously the claim that freeing Iraq will make it harder to win the war on terrorism. [...] Who said war never solved anything?

Ground beef and me

I think I cook three things well: hamburgers, chili, and -- now -- meatloaf. Beyond that, I don't know what I'm doing. But this meatloaf is delicious.

I think the key to this meatloaf is in the glaze, which combines ketchup with apple-cider vinegar (though other mild vinegars are also acceptable) and brown sugar.

It reheats well, too.

Quotes from Sunday's Creighton-Southern Illinois game

1. Nate Funk plays basketball for Creighton
2. "From Downtown" is an inexplicable euphamism for "attempts a three-point field goal."

The quote
"Funk [pause] From Downtown! [pause] Is no good!"
... ed002d would disagree

The other quote
Greg Gumble: "And, later, Duke travels to North Carolina ..."
