Quotes from Sunday's Creighton-Southern Illinois game

Background
1. Nate Funk plays basketball for Creighton
2. "From Downtown" is an inexplicable euphamism for "attempts a three-point field goal."

The quote
"Funk [pause] From Downtown! [pause] Is no good!"
... ed002d would disagree

The other quote
Greg Gumble: "And, later, Duke travels to North Carolina ..."

  • If you're gonna be pedantic about things, I'd like to point out "from downtown" is explicable.

  • Since most probably announcers live in the suburbs, then it makes sense to them that "from downtown" is a synonym for something that is far away.

  • While most NBA arenas are located within city limits, very few are located directly downtown. If a player is shooting from "downtown," this implies that he could be several blocks away, and probably scoring some blow at the same time.
