Great Moments In The Second Person
Freeze! D.C. lawmen feud over Gonzo in today's Daily News:
I'm almost positive that I could do nothing of the sort. I don't even know where to begin explaining how difficult this would be for me. Hey, at least no one used the word "literally."
FBI chief Robert Mueller nuked Attorney General Alberto Gonzales in a congressional hearing last week, essentially calling the nation's top lawman a liar.
Since then, a distinctly cold air has settled between FBI headquarters on Pennsylvania Ave. and the main Justice building directly across the street.
"You could open an ice rink between the buildings," one Mueller aide said.

I should note how interesting it is that there is an ice rink -- open in the winter -- not a quarter mile away from that spot.
Yet another reason why it would be so difficult for me to open up a competitor in the middle of Pennsylvania Avenue. In July.

Are you actually railing against figurative language now? What about "I don't even know where to begin explaining how difficult this would be." Obviously, you do know where to begin explaining it. With your very statement, you have begun explaining it! Since I refuse to stop reading your page, I must insist that you be stripped of your blogging license.

Just a clarification: my objection is to the use of "you" in the quote. Hence the subject line is not titled, "Great exaggerations" or something like that.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The dl004d blog, the worldwide leader in grumpy ruminations about nothing, applauded Old Man Josh's railing against wrongful uses of the second person. "When you read a post like that, you feel happy," dl004d said, adding: "I still feel like crap, of course, but at least you are happy."

Okay, let's say the sentence wasn't in the second person. Let's pretend the speaker said, more grammatically, "A person could open an ice rink between the two buildings" or "one could open an ice rink between the two buildings." Is this okay? And if so, what does the map have to do with it?

Sure, that'd be okay. I'll leave it to Josh to explain the map.
